Abstract:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and Graft versus Host Disease (GVHD) are the importantcomplications of bone marrow transplantation (BMT). If a transplant candidate has not beeninfected with CMV and no CMV specific antibodies can be detected serologic test, a primaryinfection could be transplantation. Anti CMV IgG, IgM) antibodies were detected by ELISATechnique and with CMV DNA PP65 Antigenemia (Ag) were compared. In this study inserum drawn from 39 patients transplantation on days 3,10.17.24, 30 after BMT, include 16female (41%) and 23 male (59%) between 8-52 years and 28 healthy control in same age. Allof patients was CMV Ab (IgG) positive the presence of IgM-CMV antibodies was significantlymore frequent in patient than control group. 12 patients were CMV Ag positive that 2 patientswere GVHD, 1 patient has been rejected. Statistical analysis showed any relation betweenpatients CMV (IgM) and CMV Ag (P=0.021). Antigenemia was found to be a good screeningtest for CMV infection in BMT recipients.
