Abstract:

Since the prevalence of cancer has grown today, researchers are looking to discover various and effective therapies. Sinomenine (SIN) is an alkaloid compound from Sinomenium acutum, a Chinesemedicinal plant, with an antineoplastic potential against a variety of cancer cells such as synovial sarcoma, lung, breast and hepatic cancer. Studies demonstrated SIN could inhibit breast cancer metastasis by blocking NF-kappa B activation and EMT pathways such as reducing expression of IL6, Janus kinase 2, STAT3 and vimentin. Also, Sinomenine treatment reduced miR-324-5p expression, thus increased the level of its target gene CUEDC2, and then suppressed the phosphorylation of IKK and inhibited breast cancer cell invasion and metastasis through regulation of the IL4/miR-324-5p/CUEDC2. Metastasis is still a severe challenge in cancer treatment especially osteosarcoma that can limit with sinomenine by suppressing CXCR4 and STAT3 phosphorylation then down-regulating theexpression of MMP-2, MMP-9, RANKL, and VEGF downstream. The effects of SIN against colorectal cancer are reduction of COX-2 expression, a marked increase in Cip1/p21 protein levels and a decrease in the levels of cyclin D1 and cyclin E. we did a search based on the keywords cancer AND sinomenine in Pubmed, EMBASE, Google Scholar databases.Due to the increasing incidence of cancer, the need to discover a new drug with more efficacy and fewer side effects is felt, so we can be used sinomenine according to the potential effects of it for treat varying types of cancer.
