Abstract:
Based on available scientific resources the risk of cancer in renal transplant patients is higher than that of normal people. The increased risk of cancer in patients who have had renal transplants has mainlybeen attributed to immunosuppressive therapy. We analyzed cancer risk retrospectively in a cohort of 64 patients undergoing renal transplantation since 1992 to 2012. This study was conducted through thestudy of archived patient’s records. Then extracted data were analyzed by SPSS software. Of these patients, 43.8 % were women and 56.3% were men. The mean age of patients was 48 years.98% ofpatients used azathioprine and sandimon . 1.6 % of patients used sandimon and cell cept. 14.1% 0f patients in the third year after transplantation a,12.5% in the first year ,10.9% in the fourth year,9.4% inthe second year ,3.1 % in the thirteen year, and 1.6% in the seventh year and eighteenth year after transplantation were involved in various types of cancers. The most common type of cancer, Kaposisarcoma and lymphoma has been diagnosed.often men were affected and the likelihood of developing cancer was seen in the first five years after renal transplantation. Immunosuppressive agents may cause DNA damage and interfere with normal DNA repair mechanisms. In addition, a number of cancers have been linked to viral infections that are common after transplantation. Australian researchersstudied 29000 patients before and after renal transplantation and showed that the incidence of viral derived cancers is higher and Non melanoma skin cancer, lymphoma and sarcoma occur morefrequently in these patients. Most studies in this field emphasize that the risk of cancer after renal transplantation increases. This study also showed that the incidence of cancer after renaltransplantation and use of the immunosuppressive drugs increased. Therefore, it’s necessary follow up periodically
