Abstract:

The last century has witnessed the golden time of antibiotic discovery and their widespread prescribe in hospital and community settings. Antimicrobial resistance has been identified as a major problem by many experts due to the lack of new agents in the development pipeline and infections caused by multi-drug resistant microorganisms becoming life threating. There are at least four goals for antibiotic stewardship program included (i) Improving patient outcome, (ii) Improving patient safety, (iii) Reducing multi-drug resistant microorganisms, (iv) and Reducing treatment costs. Although debridement & washing of burn wounds and the application of antimicrobial agents can improve the outcome of burn injury, infection of these wounds can become systemic, causing sepsis, and even death. Today s one of the most factors that could be affected the hospitalized patients with burns especially in ICU wards is infections with multidrug resistant microorganisms. Irregular administration and overuse of antibiotics has been reported to hasten the spread of multidrug resistant nosocomial bacterial strains, predominantly Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. Based on these information, we need to implement the antibiotic stewardship program with infectious diseases specialist or physicians trained for infectious diseases is inevitable.
