Effect of Nandrolone Decanoate on Rat Sperm Char-acteristics

Background: High doses of nandrolone decanoate can result in decreased testosterone synthesis leading to spermatogenic disorders and male infertility.Materials and Methods: Eighteen adult male rats were ran-domly divided into 3 groups; group 1 was served as a control and groups 2 and 3 received 3 and 6 mg/kg of nandrolone de-canoate weekly through intra-muscular injections, respectively. After 8 weeks, spermatological parameters were evaluated in all experimental groups.Results: Nandrolone decanoate administration significantly reduced sperm count, motility and viability compared to con-trol group.Conclusion: Misuse of nandrolone decanoate can result in spermatological damages causing reproductive disorders.
