Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate the infectious stressor (V. alginolyticus) onthe balance of thyroid hormones (Triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4)) inOrange-spotted grouper (Epinephelus coioides). To perform this study, 50specimens of immature groupers with mean length of 20.8 ± 0.2 cm were selectedand randomly divided into two groups. First group received no injection as controland second one injected intraperitoneally with a concentration of 107 cfu/ml ofbacteria. Fish blood samples in days 1, 4, 7 and 14 were taken.40T The samples werecentrifuged about 10 minutes in 3000*g to separate the serum. The s.erum level ofthyroid. hormones. .were measured .using ELISA. The results showed a significantdecrease in the levels of thyroid hormones in the day 7 compared to those of earlierdays (P<0.05). But, the levels of both hormones increased upto the end of experiment, although, it still was lower than the control group (P<0.05).
