Abstract:
Properties of polypropylene-glass-fiber composites change during hot rolling process and anisotropic mechanical properties appear in the rolled product. Process parameter such as rolling thickness reduction ratio affects the random orientation of fibers. In this paper, fiber orientation of polymer composite after rolling has been investigated. Finite element simulation was used to determine fiber orientation of fiber glass after rolling. The FE modeling was performed in two cases; fiber glass parallel and transverse to rolling direction. Experimental tests were carried out for justification of the modeling outcome. The simulation was carried out at different fibers angles and empirical equations have been derived for each case. So, the fiber orientation and mechanical property of fiber glass polymer composite can be predicted by using the empirical equations. Mechanical test has performed for rolled samples. It indicates that mechanical properties of polymer composite can be increased by rolling.
