Abstract:

In this study cubic/tetragonal zirconia based composite electrolytes were prepared by stabilizer coating method. At first zirconia solution was coated over pure 8YSZ(8 mol% yttria stabilized zirconia) powders. The resulting powders then were formed into cylindrical specimens and sintered at various temperatures. Microstructure and phase content of samples were characterized by SEM and XRD techniques. The electrical conductivity of composite samples was studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. In addition hardness and toughness of samples were measured by Vickers microhardness indentation method. It was found that increasing tetragonal phase content of samples improves both mechanical and electrical properties of composite samples at low temperatures. In addition by this method highly uniform distribution of phase can be obtained
