Abstract:

most of the oil production in the middle east is from carbonate reservoir , the majority of which are naturally factured . These reservoirs tend to produce at high rates in their early production period followed by low rates later on, leading to low overall recovery. the challenge is to mange the field and prevent the production decline for a long time. in this paper a compositional reservoir simulation with the constructed dual porosity model has been used to determine the reservoir management and production strategies to optimize the oil recovery from this fractured reservoir. three different scenarios that were used in this study include; 1 natural depletion , 2 gas injection , 3 water injection . simulation results show that gas injection is the most economical method to produce this reservoir and it has much better performance from oil recovery point of view compared to water injection. this production strategy causes better efficiency and therefore higher oil recovery economically assceptable.
