Abstract:
This study investigates the concept of identity in the chosen case study, Beartown by Fredrick Beckman. The analysis will be done based on Erik Erikson’s ideas on developmental psychology. This research aims to unveil the existing links between the concepts of identity based on Erikson’s developmental stages. This novel presents a town where the motto of being the bear is a value in other words being a harsh, distanced, and fearless individual. The main plot of interest moves on the rape of the young teen girl named Maya by a member of the hockey team named Kevin. This study investigates the effect of the groups in which Kevin was a member of including his teammates, his schoolmates, and his town.
