Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of (Transcranial direct-current stimulation) tDCS in reducing the craving for substance abuse in patients with methamphetamine abuse (Methamphetamine). In this study, 20 patients of Methamphetamine -dependent women who were eligible for the criteria for entering the research were selected randomly. People were matched to the severity of addiction, gender, marital status, education, duration of drug dependence and psychiatric drugs were randomly assigned to experimental, and control groups. Patients in the experimental group, which consisted of 10 people (tDCS) were applied. Patients in the control group of 10 patients were not given an independent variable, and stimulation was performed as an unrealistic stimulation, and the subjects did not know that the stimulation was not real. In this study, a questionnaire of DDQ craving for addiction and addiction severity index (ASI) and tDCS instrument were used. To test the hypothesis of the research, the Likert scale and Wilcoxon test were used. The results showed that tDCS treatment method reduced the craving rate in the experimental group compared to the control group. The mean post-test scores decreased significantly in the experimental group, indicating the effectiveness of the intervention method (Sig = 0.05). In addition, tDCS caused a significant difference in the mean scores of the experimental group in all dimensions of craving for substance and it can be concluded that tDCS reduces all dimensions of craving (Sig = 0.05). The effect of tDCS in the periphery of the Electroencephalography was significant on the craving in the experimental group compared to the control group.
