Channel Intake with Submerged Vanes Sedimentation Simulation Possibility by Micromodel abstract
Submerged vanes are small hydraulic structures to conduct flow and sediment in river bed, which may be installed in single or group patterns. Submerged vanes are, about two decades, used to control rive intake sedimentation and river bank protection. They change flow and sediment transport patterns near river bed and increase secondary flow. Submerged vanes are easy to use, economical and need very low maintenance cost. In this study, a glass micromodel was built and vanes were installed close to diversion entrance. The bed deformation patterns by sediment transportation were observed. The results of micromodel were satisfactorily comparable with the results of other published works. This experiment shows that, it is possible to simulate flow and sedimentation processes by micro model.
