Abstract:

Nanoparticle technology is rapidly going forward and is applying for the wide range of applications in medicinal and pharmaceutical fields. The potential of metal oxide nanoparticles as antimicrobial and anticancer agents is widely investigated and is considered as an alternative approach to overcome the challenge posed by drug resistance in bacteria and microbes. This review discusses novel aspects to nanoparticle synthesis including green synthesis and the antimicrobial effects of titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Approaches for enhancing antimicrobial potential of nanoparticles by surface modification and its potential as a vehicle for antibiotic delivery are also explored. Targeted drug delivery using nanostructured materials delivers the drug at the deceased site. This increases the efficacy of the drug in killing the cancer cells.
