Abstract:
Wind is known as unlimited energy, which requires the use of equipment such as turbines to use in order to produce electrical energy. One of the main causes of damage to wind turbines is the lightning strike. The impact of this natural phenomenon is such that it supplies a great deal of energy in the short term, resulting in sometimes irreparable damage to the wind turbine. Lightning is a high-frequency phenomenon. In order to protect wind turbines against this phenomenon, a reliable and accurate model of the behavior of various wind turbine equipment in a wide frequency range should first be provided. In this paper, with the development of a high frequency wind turbine model, which is tailored to the IWC 61400 standard, and the precise modeling of ground behavior and ground-linking of the wind turbine system to one another (connected) in the EMTP-RV software environment, is an economical and high reliability to protect wind turbines against lightning.
