Abstract:

Introduction: Clinical decision support system is an electronic system designed to assist in clinical decision making directly. These systems have different applications depending on the group that uses them. Among their applications is in the field of nursing and medicine. This study aimed to investigate the application of clinical decision support systems in nursing and the field related to drugs. Methods: This study was a systematic review in which PubMed, Web Of Science, and Embase databases were searched using the keywords Clinical decision support system, Decision support system CDSS, DSS, Nurse, Nursing, Drug, Medication until November 2020. Were located. Inclusion criteria included English articles on clinical decision support systems used by nurses in drug-related discussions. This study was performed without a time limit. Articles related to the approval of two authors were selected for data extraction. Disagreements between the two browsers were resolved through consultation with the third author. PRISMA instructions were used to report the results. Results: A total of 545 articles were recovered, and 26 articles were reviewed after removing duplicates. The articles' results showed that nurses use the drug decision support system in intensive care, neonatal intensive care, nursing homes, and home care. These systems are used in cases such as diagnosis and prevention of drug interactions and repetitive treatments, reducing the improper use of drugs and the possibility of prescribing a predefined prescription. This system reduces the workload of the nurse and focuses more on the work. The nurse uses specialist physicians' knowledge and experience, comprehensive and accurate documentation of clinical data in the intensive care unit, accurate and timely medication information during care, decision improvement, increases confidence in nurses, and improves teamwork. Conclusion: In general, the use of drug decision support systems by nurses can reduce mortality, increase safety, save time, and money. Although there are several benefits to using these systems by nurses, more studies are needed to determine the effect of using these systems on medicine.
