Abstract:

The thermal insulator coatings can be considered as a solution to reduce energy consumption. In this study, a thermal barrier composite was designed as a constructive coating. A Waterborne Acrylic resin and hollow glass micro sphere (HGMS) additive (۳, ۵, ۷ and۱۰% w/w) was utilized to formulate the thermal barrier coatings. Dispersion quality and interaction between HGMS and resin matrix were studied by optical microscopy. Coatings were applied to the steel and glass substrates, and the general properties of the coatings such as film formation, adhesion, hardness, and gloss were then studied. The thermal conductivity coefficient of the coatings was measured by temperature modulated differential scanning colorimeter (TMDSC). It was found that the coating with ۵% HGMS shows the optimum properties compared to the other coatings.
