Abstract:

Soil improvement with stone columns is often implemented in seismic areas. Dynamic analysis of soil slopes is very important to predict seismic effects on embankments, earth dams, excavations trenches and various other geotechnical structures. In this paper, finite difference model is developed to study the dynamic response of stone-column-reinforced soil slope. Seismic input for dynamic analysis is simulated as amplitude modulated non-stationary process. A computer code is developed to generate earthquake ground motions. The dynamic response of the reinforced soil slope model is used to calculate seismic coefficient for failure surface. In order to study the effects of peak ground acceleration (PGA) on the reinforced soil slope, three different values of PGA are considered. The results of seismic analysis are presented in the form of stress. Also, the maximum acceleration values are obtained at the slope height.
