Abstract:

In this work, the implementation of the Integrated Thermal Energy and Rainwater Storage (ITHERST) system in an institutional building for peak load reduction has been studied. The stored rainwater can be utilized as a thermal storage resource, become cold by the chiller at off-peak hours of a day, and be employed at peak load hours. This system is simulated by developing a basic model of an institutional building. The cooling load of a building and the harvested rainwater rate is obtained based on Tehran’s meteorological information on ۱۳۹۶. Results show that by implementing the intended system, potable water consumption reduces ۲۹۵۰۰۰ liters per year, and peak load can be decreased to ۵۳%. Although using Integrated Thermal Energy and Rainwater Storage (ITHERST) system in an institutional building cause total electrical energy be increased by ۱.۴%, it is notable that this increase occurs at off-peak load hours of a day.
