Green and solvent-free synthesis of aryl α-halomethyl ketones through a tandem reaction between arylmethylketones and metal halides

A highly efficient and green synthesis of aryl α-halomethyl ketones has been performed by reactions of aryl methyl ketones and various metal halides in the presence of cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) and hexyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (HTPB) as a promoter and solvent at room temperature. This synthetic protocol is environmentally friendly in addition to other advantages such as short reaction time, ambient conditions, simple work up procedure and excellent product yields
