Application of LQG/LTR Method In Load Frequency Control abstract
A new robust controller for power systems has been proposed in this paper; the new strategy is based on LQG/LTR method to Load Frequency Control (LFC) of the power systems. The load frequency control is becoming more significant recently with increasing size, changing structure and complexity of the interconnected power systems. Because proportional integral controllers are incapable of obtaining good dynamic performance for wide range of operation conditions and various load change scenarios in multi-area power system, in this paper LQG/LTR method is proposed. LQG/LTR method is a systematic design method and it is based on shaping and recovering open loop singular values. Because the complexities of computation are realised, the inputs and outputs are redefined. The proposed method is tested on two area power system under various operating conditions and it is compared with QFTcontroller. In order to show the practical limitation in the rate of changes in the generating power of each generation companies, generation rate constrains are considered for each area. The simulation results show that the proposed design method controller achieves a good performance even in the presence of Generation Rate Constraints (GRC) and various changes in parameters.
