Abstract:
The School environment plays a major role in child’s achievement. The psychology of a child also plays its part in the achievement of a student. Impact of encouragement and punishment on learning of students in the education is important. This review is concerned with the way in which encouragements and punishments, may or may not, motivate students to engage in learning and change their behavior. Results showed that although school policies tended to link their encouragements and punishments system with a positive discipline approach the emphasis in practice often appeared to be on penalties for bad behavior rather than enhancing engagement and motivation. Students tended to perceive encouragements to be strongly linked to work and punishments to behavior. Encouragement influence on the teaching process and the teachers use it as a weapon for successful teacher, and also punishment has more to do with a teacher’s frustration level than with the student’s misbehavior
