Abstract:

This study has developed a fast mathematical model to indicate the ingestion phenomenon caused by secondary airflow in an industrial gas turbine. Since accuracy, turnaround time, computational cost, and the purpose of the study are the principal factors in model implementation; faster mathematical methods are highly applicable for gas turbine manufacturers. When hot main gas flows into the space between the discs, due to the pressure difference between the main flow and the wheels, the flow ingestion occurs, which is harmful to the gas turbine. Therefore, the recognition of this phenomenon has been proposed based on a fast and accurate mathematical model in this research. Results showed that the dimensionless flow rate of the ingestion compared to the minimum flow rate in off-design conditions is about ۱۲%, indicating an acceptable accuracy. Eventually, a combination of fast methods and three-dimensional numerical models have been used in this research to propose a complete understanding of the ingestion phenomenon.
