Abstract:

In the spring of ۲۰۲۰, Iranian universities were closed for face-to-face training to control the transmission of COVID-۱۹ disease. Understanding the mental health and quality of life of students in this course is very important. Therefore, the purpose of this research Description of the health of physical education students during the closure of universities related to COVID-۱۹.The research method was descriptive and cross-sectional. The statistical population was all physical education students in Iran that ۴۰۰ people were selected as a statistical sample using cluster random sampling method. A national sample recruited via social media. A total ۳۶۷ Physical education student (age ۲۰-۳۰ years, females = ۵۴.۶%, males = ۴۵.۴%) completed an anonymous online survey.Demographic information collected was sex, type of sport participation, and level of poverty and level of education. Assessments used were the General Anxiety Disorder ۷-Item for anxiety, Patient Health Questionnaire ۹-Item for depression, the Students Functional Activity Brief Scale for physical activity, and the Students Quality of Life Inventory ۴.۰ for quality of life. Mental health, physical activity, and health-related quality-of-life variables were compared among sex, grade using means and ۹۵% confidence intervals (CIs) from the survey-weighted analysis of variance.Females reported a higher prevalence of moderate to severe anxiety symptoms (females = ۳۹.۴% versus males = ۳۱.۶%). The students Functional Activity Brief Scale score was highest (best) for bachelors degree (mean = ۱۶.۵, ۹۵% CI = ۱۵.۰, ۱۷.۰) and lowest for PhD student (mean = ۱۱.۹, ۹۵% CI = ۱۲.۴, ۱۳.۵). The prevalence of depression symptoms was highest in team sport (۶۹.۸%) and lowest in individual sport (۶۱.۷%) participants. The total students Quality of Life Inventory score was lowest (worst) for athletes student from counties with the highest poverty levels (high: mean = ۷۷.۸,; middle: mean = ۸۱.۷, ۹۵% CI = ۸۱.۵.۰, ۸۲.۷; and low: mean = ۷۶.۴, ۹۵% CI = ۷۵.۴, ۷۷.۱).Health of physical education students related to COVID-۱۹ and cancellation of sports to differing degrees depending on sex, level of education, type of sport participation, and level of poverty.
