Abstract:

Safety has been considered as a key element in air transport industry. Although fatal air accidents are rarecompared to other transport industries, rapid growth in the air travel demands has resulted in aviation’sincreasing exposure to safety and risk. Although the issue of airline safety is serious public concern,notably few studies have investigated safety efficiency of airlines. This paper aims to propose a hybridmethod using Fuzzy DEA, Fuzzy ANP and Fuzzy MADM to measure the efficiencies of DMUs. Unlikeprevious methods, we use Fuzzy DEA (both BCC and CCR) to construct the pair wise comparison matrixbetween DMUs and then use Fuzzy ANP for calculating weight of each inputs and outputs. Thenefficiency of each airline (DMU) is obtained using MADM methods. In this step we use threecompromise MADM methods (ARAS-F, Fuzzy TOPSIS and Fuzzy VIKOR) and compound results withBORDA. This New method can efficiently overcome pitfalls of traditional DEA models. On the otherhand, Comparing Results show that ranking based on MADM methods are the same in different FuzzyDEA models (BCC and CCR); whereas when we use traditional models the ranking will be change inBCC and CCR models.The method proposed in this study is used to evaluate the safety efficiency of ۷ Iranian airlines and selectthe safest one. The final results can help managers to have suitable decisions based on comparing betweenefficient and non-efficient airlines.
