Abstract:

Due to unique properties of thiourethane (TU) oligomer, its use in medical, dental and orthopedical polymer composites increased over the last decade. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of TU backbone structure on the final properties of methacrylate polymer composites. The results demonstrate that the TU embedded in the organic matrix or placed on the composite surface, is a promising strategy to improve the mechanical properties of methacrylate polymer composites. The presence of TU oligomer leads to a significant stress reduction as well as a large increase in the fracture toughness of methacrylate composites.
