Seawater Quality Parameters at Nayband Mangrove Ecosystem on the Northern Coasts of the Persian Gulf abstract
This research characterizes the spatial variability of the seawater quality (carbonate chemistry parameters including total alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, CO2 partial pressure, aragonite saturation, salinity, dissolved oxygen and temperature) at Nayband mangrove ecosystem on the northern coasts of the Persian Gulf (PG), which is adjacent to intensive anthropogenic activities (Pars Special Economic Energy Zone). Samples were collected from stations distributed throughout the mangrove forest and coastal water of the PG during September 2016. The results showed that significant increase of Carbon dioxide pressure (pCO2) and decrease of surface water pH at the Nayband site, which might be due to the CO2 emission from oil and gas facilities nearby this site. Also, the surface waters in the Nayband site were undersaturated with respect to aragonite (Ωarg<1).
