Abstract:

Glass waste is disposed of in landfills in many countries throughout the world, posing an environmental challenge. Repurposing waste glass into construction materials reduces landfill shortages, natural resource use, and greenhouse gas emissions. A number of researchers studied the idea of using crushed waste glass (CWG) as a construction material over the past ۶۵ years. Contrary to popular belief, CWG is not often used for concrete or asphalt construction projects worldwide. There are several barriers to CWG's use as a fine aggregate, including the severity of ASR expansions and an insufficient understanding of these reactions. Manufacturing aggregates has traditionally been carried out using composite materials of concrete and asphalt, unbound construction materials, lightweight engineering materials, and cementitious materials. This paper conducted a comprehensive literature review on CWG. The results showed CWGs could be used as aggregate construction materials. Waste glass should be added to concrete in the form of fibre-reinforced aggregates, foamed waste glass concrete, and glass powder could be used to fill asphalt gaps.
