Abstract:

This study aimed to assess the level of job satisfaction and analyze factors influencing it in four and five-star hotels in Tehran, Iran. The outcomes were obtained from two factors: demographic factors and mental factors. Demographic factors, in this research, included gender, marital status, type of contract, tenure, age, education, and working department while mental factors extracted from factor analysis were supervision, pay, promotion, and the work itself. The research was done in February ۲۰۲۲ in which ۳۲۶ valid questionnaires were collected through a survey. Descriptive analysis, t-test, and ANOVA test were used for analyzing frequencies and the mean comparison. The results showed a mediocre level of satisfaction among employees. Hence, among demographic factors, employees who benefited from a permanent contract were more satisfied with their job, and supervision was the most impressive factor in mental factors. Type of contract and supervision are classified as hygiene factors in Herzberg’s theory. Therefore, according to this study, hygiene factors meaningfully affect job satisfaction and leads us to the result thatHerzberg’s theory may not work in developing countries.
