Abstract:
Before using the gas in a synthesis unit, the hydrocarbons in the biomass gasification gas must be reduced to CO and H۲. It is possible to treat the gas using autothermal or steam reforming with a nickel or noble metal catalyst, however t,he severe reaction conditions might result in the creation of solid carbon. The effects of pressure, time on-stream, and ethylene concentration on carbon ization on nickel and rhodium catalysts are examined in this paper. The tests were conducted using lab-scale apparatus under reaction circumstances that closely resembled those of a pilot-scale biomass gasifier. Although there were discrepancies between the rhodium and nickel catalysts, the results showed that ethylene lelevelseyond ۲۰,۰۰۰ vol-ppm and the higher pressure would enhance the carbon production. However, when the reaction interval was prolonged from ۵ h to ۱۴۴ h, carbon production on the nickel catalyst became noticeably more prominent. It was discovered that the kind of carbon was mostly graphitic and encapsulating. The absence of carbon nanotubes (also known as whisker carbons) in the feed prevented their development, which is consistent with the literature.
