Abstract:
Regarding the limited space, in construction projects, one of the most important issues in stabilization of soil slopes is to select a suitable method considering technical, operational and economic aspects. Geo walls are more cost effective, compared with reinforced concrete or gravity walls, and are the right option for construction of abutment bridges, wing walls, etc. Accordingly, in this research, an optimal design is proposed, based on Iranian Geotechnical Society National Competition in Iran. In order to simulate, a box with specific size was filled with sand and paper strips were used to reinforce it to bear loads to the front of the paper wall. Design assessment was conducted based on lateral deflection and transverse, lateral and dynamic load capacity. Reinforcing compression, joint and mechanical properties of sand were tested and finally a design with minimum reinforcing weight for load bearing was obtained.
