Abstract:

This paper considers the solitary wave interaction with seawalls of different geometries including curved and sloped faces using numerical modelling. This interaction was simulated using Finite Volume-Volume of Fraction (FV-VOF) method. To model the turbulent free surface flow coupled VOF and k-ε-RNG approaches were used. To validate the model, the numerical results for a conventional sloping seawall were compared with the experimental data. Then the interaction of solitary waves and seawalls with different circular concave and convex front faces as well as linear slope were modelled. The results showed that for these seawalls in general by increasing the solitary wavelength, the wave run-up and wave reflection increases. Furthermore, for convex walls in comparison to conventional linear sloping seawall, the wave run-up and wave reflection decrease by ۵% and ۱%. For concave walls the wave run-up and wave reflection increase by ۲۸% and ۱۱%, respectively. The simulation results revealed that normalized maximum run-up increases with an increase in normalized incident wave height for both types of the curved walls. Finally, an economical comparison was made between different seawall shapes.
