Abstract:

Background: Introduction: Vaccination is one of the painful and invasive processes that every infant will face. Therefore, it is necessary to consider appropriate non-pharmacological measures to promoting hygiene and health of the society and relieve the pain caused by the vaccine in infants in order to prevent physiological, psychological and psychological complications of the mother and the infant. This study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effect of music and sucrose on the pain caused by vaccination in infants.Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, ۱۳۵ six-month-old infants referred to Khomein health centers were selected by available sampling method and then divided into three groups of music, oral sucrose and control by block randomization method. In the music group, a non-verbal piano was played from ۳ minutes before to ۳ minutes after the vaccination. In the sucrose group, the infant was given a ۲۴% syringe solution with a syringe about ۱۰ seconds before the injection. No special intervention was performed in the control group. Data collection was calculated using a questionnaire and MBPS pain measurement tool. Then, the data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The mean and standard deviation of behavioral pain reactions using music technique and oral sucrose were lower than the control group (p = ۰.۰۰۰۰). There was also a statistically significant difference in pain intensity between music groups and sucrose (p = ۰.۰۰۰۰). The mean pain intensity in the sucrose group was lower than the music group (p <۰.۰۵).Conclusion: The result of the study showed that both music and sucrose reduce the pain caused by vaccination in infants; Therefore, it is recommended to the officials of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education to provide the necessary instructions for the use of the mentioned methods in order to relieve the pain of infants and improve the health and quality of health and hygiene services.
