An updated checklist of Syrphidae (Diptera, Brachycera) from Iran

An updated checklist of Iranian Syrphidae (Diptera: Syrphoidea) is presented based on literature records with the latest taxonomic and nomenclatural changes. A total of ۲۶۹ valid species in ۷۰ genera among four subfamilies have been known from Iran, which is approximately ۴.۲۷ percent of the world’s total known Syrphidae. Among these, ۱۴۵ species and ۳۱ genera were added to the previous list. Of the ۷۰ genera Eumerus Meigen (۳۵ species, ۱۳.۰۱%) and Merodon Meigen (۲۶ species, ۹.۶۷%), are the most specious, whereas ۳۰ genera are represented in Iran by only one recorded species. The majority of Iranian hoverfly species are exclusively distributed in the Palaearctic region, while ۲۱ species are known only from Iran and possibly endemic to the country.
