Abstract:

Waste management or waste disposal includes the processes and actions required to managewaste from its inception to its final disposal. This includes the collection, transport, treatmentand disposal of waste, together with monitoring and regulation of the waste managementprocess and waste-related laws, technologies, economic mechanisms. Waste management isa set of activities and measures necessary for waste management from the time of productionto its final disposal. These activities include collecting, transporting and disposing of wasteand monitoring the implementation of waste management laws. Waste can be solid, liquidor gas, and each type of waste requires its own methods for management. Waste managementincludes all types of waste, including industrial, biological and household waste. In somecases, waste can be harmful to human health. The goal of waste management is to reduce theharmful effects of waste on human health, the environment and aesthetics. A major part ofwaste management is the management of municipal solid waste, which is the waste generatedby homes, industries, and commercial activities. COVID-۱۹, the novel corona virus hasbecome a household name. The global COVID-۱۹ outbreak, become a pandemic in early۲۰۲۰, and spurred millions of life across the world. The pandemic is spreading extremelyand its impacts upon human health and environment intensifying day-by-day. Biomedicalwaste generated daily due to COVID-۱۹ are about the major environmental health concernand its critical management becomes a global challenge. Tones of COVID-۱۹ contaminatedwastes are generated every day worldwide and its sound management is very essential tobreak the disease transmission. The safe and sustainable management of COVID-۱۹contaminated biomedical waste (BMW) is a social and legal responsibility of all peopleduring this critical period of disease transmission. Unsound management of this waste couldcause unforeseen “knock-on” effects on human health and the environment. Health workers,municipal workers, rag-pickers and other persons who are involved directly or indirectly inthe COVID -۱۹ war are at high risk and needs to be careful while discharging theirresponsibility with an efficient and effective waste disposal mechanism.
