Abstract:

Synthetic thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) are one of the most important classes of materials that find a wide range of applications in many different fields, such as; protective coatings, seals and gaskets, shoe soles, tires, textile fibers, sporting goods, automotive plastics, semi-permeable membranes, wound dressings, and biomaterials.۱ In terms of their chemical structures or molecular architectures, commercially important TPEs can generally be divided into two main groups, which are;i. ABA triblock copolymers, andii. segmented or multiblock copolymers.In addition to these, other polymeric systems that can be designed or modified to have TPE properties include ion-containing polymers, star block copolymers, multigraft copolymers, and polymer blends.
