A Cross-Disciplinary and Gender-Based study of the use of Attitude markersin Research Articles Result and Discussion Sectionss

This article reports a cross-disciplinary and gender-based study of the use of attitude markers inresult and discussion sectionss of research articles. To carry out the study, ۶۰ research articleswith standard macrostructure of experimental RA (Introduction, Method, Result andDiscussion/conclusion sectionss) were selected from six disciplines, of all three belonging tohard sciences and the other three belonging to soft sciences. Among ۱۰ articles belonging to eachdiscipline, five articles are written by male writers and the other fives are written by femalewriters. This study has focused on result and discussion sectionss. Quantitative analyses revealedsignificant cross-disciplinary and gender-based differences in the occurrence of attitude markers.The observed differences are interpretable in terms of the differences in the nature of soft andhard sciences and differences in the attitudes of two different genders in expressing theirattitudes. The findings of the study can have ESP/EAP implications.
