Outbreak of Koi herpesvirus (KHV) disease in Shahmirzad, Semnan

The aim of present study was to determine the cause of mass mortality in koi during June ۲۰۲۲ in Shahmirzad in Semnan province. A total of ۳۲ fish out of ۴۵۰ were referred to Aquatic animal Diseases laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Semnan University. Gill necrosis, enophthalmia and notched nose were the most prominent clinical signs in reffered fish. Specimens of Gill and kidney from the infected koi were taken for identification using PCR. In this study, PCR products were amplicons with size of ۴۰۹bp that indicated the presence of Cyprinid Herpesvirus -۳(CyHV-۳) in all of the samples which were taken .It is the first report of KHV in Semnan Province
