Abstract:

The most important language in the world is English. English is used by people as their first or secondlanguage. In studying English, four skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing are needed to belearned. One of the most crucial components of learning English is reading because it allows pupils to expandtheir knowledge (Guanabara et al., ۲۰۱۷). The present study investigated the effects of the cooperativelearning model especially Jigsaw II in improving learners‘ reading comprehension and motivation to read.Twenty-four intermediate_ level students (female) were randomly chosen to participate in this study.Participants were divided into two control (n=۱۲) and experimental (n=۱۲) groups. A pretest wasadministered to the participants and the treatment followed afterward. The posttest was conducted after thetreatment. The data were analyzed by means, standard deviations, and MANOVA . The results revealedstatistically that the experimental group performed better than the control group also students‘ motivationwas considerably increased by cooperative learning instruction.
