Abstract:

The current study was to investigate the effect of type of exercise on cardiac biomarkers and quality of life of active elderly men. ۳۰ subjects were studied purposefully in two groups of ۱۵ (۱. resistance training, ۲. aerobic training). Serum levels of FGF-۲۱ were recorded by ELISA method using special evaluation kits and quality of life using a quality of life questionnaire with ۲۶ questions in five items (physical health, mental health, social relations, environmental health and quality of life and overall general health of the elderly). Then, the subjects of the exercise intervention groups implemented specific exercise protocols for each group for ۴ weeks and three sessions per week. After the exercises, the post-test data were evaluated and recorded, similar to the pre-test conditions. Using descriptive statistics tests, dependent t-test, one-way analysis of variance and post-hoc test, the data were statistically analyzed in SPSS version ۲۴ environment. Significant level ۰/۰۵ was considered. The results of the present study showed that the serum levels of FGF-۲۱ increased significantly after ۴ weeks of resistance and aerobic training. No significant difference was observed between the effect of two types of exercise on FGF-۲۱. Also, the effect of resistance and aerobic exercises on the quality of life of elderly men was significant in all subjects. After resistance training, physical health experienced the greatest change and environmental health experienced the least change. While, after aerobic exercises, mental health had the most changes and the least impact was related to social relationships. It is suggested to use resistance exercises along with aerobic exercises in order to improve the health of the heart factors and improve the quality of life of the elderly.
