Abstract:

This Letter describes the design and synthesis of novel sulfonamides derived from p-anisidine in excellent yields inthe absence of organic bases. These sulfonamides have been prepared by the condensation of ۵-acetylamino-۲-methoxy benzenesulfonyl chloride with different amines and then amid werehydrolyzed to amino group.Thestructure of the synthesized compounds has been confirmed by IR, ۱H NMR and ۱۳C NMR data.All the compoundswere screened in vitro for their antibacterial activities. Preliminary results indicated that ۵-Amino-N-(۲-hydroxyphenyl)-۲-methoxy-benzenesulfonamide, to be the most potent compounds against all the tested strains.
