Abstract:

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of metacognitive therapy on positive and negative metacognitive beliefs of students with generalized anxiety symptoms in Karaj city. The design of the current research was quasi-experimental with pre-test, post-test and control group. The statistical population of this research includes all the students of Karaj city. be The sample of the present study was selected in a purposeful way. In this way, ۳۰ people were selected considering the inclusion criteria and were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The tool used in this research included positive and negative metacognitive beliefs questionnaire. In the case of the experimental group, a therapeutic intervention including ۱۰ sessions of metacognitive therapy was implemented, while the subjects of the control group were on the waiting list. After the end of the intervention, both groups were given a post-test. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. The results showed that there is a significant difference between the two groups in terms of positive and negative metacognitive beliefs. Therefore, it can be said that metacognitive therapy has been effective in reducing the negative and positive metacognitive beliefs of students in the experimental group compared to the control group.
