Abstract:
The moral theories of Mohammad Hossein Tabatabaei, in the sixth article of his book The Principles of Philosophy and the Method of Realism, have fueled many discussions. Some like Morteza Motahari have criticized Tabatabai's theory and considered it to cause relativism (without standards) in ethics. In that article, Tabatabaei clearly says that we make assumptions about the good and the bad to meet our needs. As a result, we cannot consider good and bad as absolute, but they change according to our needs and are relative matters. Meanwhile, in the book Tafsir al-Mizan, he apparently contradictorily believed that if good and bad are not absolute and they change in different times and different societies, ethics may also change, and virtues and vices may replace each other.
