Abstract:
With the development of power networks, their control and management has become important.Management, control, analysis of stability and other decisions regarding power networks require havingsufficient and correct information about the state of the network. A phasor measurement unit (PMU) isa device that measures electrical waves in a power network using a common time source forsynchronization. The use of phasor measurement units (PMU) equipment in the power network isexpanding day by day. In this article, firstly, an introduction to phasor measurement units is fullydescribed. Then there is a history of the idea of using it and its installation and use. In the next section,the phasor measurement units are defined and their applications in the operation of power systems aredescribed in detail. The use of PMU in the power network is very important, as it measures importantparameters such as frequency drop, frequency increase, positive frequency change rate, negativefrequency change rate, voltage drop, overvoltage and overcurrent and in the calculation of lineparameters, thermal display of transmission lines. , state estimation, special protections and networksecurity and stability studies are used. At the end, the conclusion is given.
