Study of the effect of using intercooler and reheater to a S-CO۲cycle

Abstract:
The depletion of fossil fuel resources and the destruction of theenvironment by the pollutants caused by the exploitation of these energysources have prompted researchers to seek alternative energy productionsystems with higher efficiency. Due to its simplicity, compactness,stability, high safety and superior economy, the supercritical carbondioxide cycle (S-CO۲) is a useful option as an energy conversion systemfor the future. In this cycle, due to the rapid changes in thethermophysical properties of CO۲ near the critical point, the work ofcompression is reduced and the efficiency of the system is increased. Inthis research, two various cycles including the simple supercriticalcarbon dioxide cycle and the supercritical carbon dioxide cycle withintercooling and reheating were studied. According to the results, byconsidering the initial assumptions, the efficiency of the simple S-CO۲cycle is ۱۳.۴۷ % while the efficiency of the S-CO۲ cycle with intercoolingand reheating is ۱۳.۶۸ %. The amount of the power produced by thesimple S-CO۲ cycle is ۱۴.۰۳ kW and the amount of the power producedby the S-CO۲ cycle with reheating is ۱۴.۶۲ kW.
