Abstract:

Background & aim: Ethiopia plans to immunize ۲۰% of its population by the end of ۲۰۲۱. However, there is little data available on the vaccine's current uptake in our nation.  This study aimed to assess the uptake of COVID-۱۹ vaccination and its contributors among reproductive-aged women in Dessie Town, Northeast Ethiopia, in ۲۰۲۲.Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Dessie town, northeast Ethiopia, on February ۲۰۲۲. A multiple-stage stratified sampling method was employed to select ۶۳۶ reproductive-aged women. A pretested researcher-made, semi structured questionnaire was administered by an interviewer to collect the data.  Data were entered into the Epi-data version ۴.۴.۲.۱ program and exported to the software SPSS version ۲۵ for additional analysis. Bivariable logistic regression was performed to ascertain the association between each independent variable. Results: From ۶۳۶ surveyed reproductive-aged women, ۱۱۴ (۱۸.۱% (۹۵% CI, ۱۵.۳%, ۲۱.۳%)) uptake the COVID-۱۹ vaccination. Factors such as urban residency (AOR=۳.۲۴, ۹۵% CI ۱.۷۴, ۶.۰۳), primary educational level (AOR=۳.۶۶, ۹۵% CI ۱.۶۴, ۱.۷۱), having children (AOR=۲.۱۶, ۹۵% CI ۱.۳۲, ۳.۵۵), confirmed medical problems (AOR=۴.۹۴, ۹۵% CI ۲.۴۵, ۹.۹۷), favourable attitude (AOR=۴.۰۱, ۹۵% CI ۲.۳۸, ۶.۷۷), and practice of prevention strategies (AOR=۳.۳۶, ۹۵% CI ۱.۹۱, ۵.۹۱) were contributed to the use of the COVID-۱۹ vaccine. Conclusion: The magnitude of uptake of COVID-۱۹ vaccination is still low. Therefore, addressing the information regarding the vaccine to all women will be important.
