Abstract:

The context of this research is the design of arc interruption for DC high current/low SC (short circuit) fuses in a battery bank protection system. The challenge arises from the internal resistance of the batteries, which causes the short circuit current to be close to the nominal current.The aim of this research is to accurately estimate the current interruption behavior of a fuse element under different stresses in a DC network. The focus is on the behavior of the fuse element in terms of heat transfer, melting, evaporation, arc initiation, arc expansion, and interaction with the external circuitry.
