Abstract:

In the present study, at first the effect of ۲-mercaptobenzothiazole concentration on the corrosion behavior of copper at ۲۵°C in ۳wt%. NaCl solution was investigated via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and weight loss tests. The highest inhibition efficiency of ۹۹.۳۴% and ۹۳% was obtained according to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and weight loss tests, respectively at the concentration of ۹۰ppm. Scanning electron microscopy micrographs of the corroded surfaces confirmed the results of corrosion results. The effect of temperature on the corrosion performance of ۲-mercaptobenzothiazole in ۳wt%. NaCl solution was also investigated by EIS test at temperatures of ۴۰, ۵۵ and ۷۰° C. Results showed that the temperature increament can increase the corrosion rate of copper more than ۱۰ trimes compare to room temperature. Finally, it was found that ۲-mercaptobenzothiazole can acts as an effective inhibitor for copper corrosion at high temperatures.
