AN OVERVIEWAND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF USING GEOTUBES IN DIKE CONSTRUCTION abstract
Coastal erosion has always been a serious problem in shorelines, which causes millions of dollars worth of damage to coastlines and public properties around the world. As a consequence, rapid and uncontrolled coastal developments were started to prevent the exacerbation of erosionhazards which also have had a damaging impact on coastal ecosystems. The current studypresents a comparative environmental impact assessment of two protective alternatives in coastaland shoreline structures, including traditional rubble system and a more novel one called geotubesystem. Case study of two dike structures in Bushehr and Qeshm in the south of Iran is performed and beneficial aspects of geotube system are identified.
