Abstract:
Obesity is among the major health problems; therefore, the present study aimed to investigate six-week aerobic training with green tea supplementation on some cardiovascular markers in young obese men. After measuring physiological markers, ۵۷ overweight men in the age range of ۲۸-۳۵ years old were randomly divided into four groups: aerobic exercise + green tea consumption (AE+GE; n=۱۰), aerobic exercise (AE; n=۱۰), green tea consumption (GE; n=۱۰), control group (C; n=۱۰) in which members of this group neither participated in aerobic exercise nor consumed green tea. Eighteen sessions of aerobic exercises were held over the six-week study period (three ۴۵-minute training sessions per week). The variables were examined before the intervention and ۴۸ hours after the last training session and tea consumption. Body Mass Index and fat percentage significantly decreased in AE+GE, AE, and GE groups (P=۰.۰۰۱ for all). Aerobic power significantly increased in AE+GE (P=۰.۰۰۱) and AE (P=۰.۰۰۱) groups. Systolic blood pressure significantly decreased in AE+GE (P=۰.۰۰۶) and AE (P=۰.۰۰۲) groups. Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased in AE+GE (P=۰.۰۰۱) and AE (P=۰.۰۱۵) groups. Total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein decreased in AE+GE (P=۰.۰۰۱), AE (P=۰.۰۰۴, P=۰.۰۰۲) and GE groups (P=۰.۰۲; P=۰.۰۱۲). High-density lipoprotein significantly increased in AE+GE (P=۰.۰۰۱) and AE groups (P=۰.۰۴). Apelin levels decreased in AE+GE (P=۰.۰۰۱) and AE groups (P=۰.۰۰۱). Paraoxonase-۱ significantly increased in AE+GE (P=۰.۰۰۱), AE (P=۰,۰۰۱), and GE (P=۰.۳۰) groups. Aerobic exercise and green tea consumption effectively controlled cardiovascular risk factors in obese or overweight people. However, combining aerobic exercise and green tea consumption led to better results.
