Abstract:
(i) to explore the use of various communication technologies (CTs) (ii) to find out the current trends of these technologies among users of biomedical information to increase prompt, pinpointed communication services , and (iv) finally to suggest solutions to cope with problems.
Methodology: Literature search has been used for review: use and awareness of CTs of users of biomedical services in India. The survey of 850 users has been carried out using questionnaire as a main tool. However , a multi method approach, interview and indirect studies have been adopted random stratified sampling. About 57.41% (488) responded during 1997-98 and 80.54% during 2003-04 However only 488 questionnaires were taken into consideration for the both survey to find out trend. Article also deals with past present and duture of CTs in its introductory. The study includes various age groups (<30 31-40, 41-50,>50) as well as different qualifications: (phD , MSc, MBBS, MD, BSC/ equivalent, HSc , etc with different designations. It includes telephones, intercom, mobiles , e-mails , radio television , e publishing, tele – text , videotext , fax, voice mail , etc.
Results: the study shows multi folds increase in the use of various CTs during 2003-04 has been noticed. The study also includes use: (frequently, sometimes , rarely), know, not known. It also indicates the usefulness : very useful, satisfied , and dissatisfies.
It was found that user were significantly improved in the use of various CTs and prefer that latest available to them.
Conclusion: it concludes that Cts are the integral part of modem information and library especially biomedincine for pinpointed , expeditious and exhaustive Information services.
